Sincity Dialogue II

the night is hot as hell. it's a lousy room in a lousy part of a lousy town. i'm staring at a goddess. she's telling me she wants me. i'm not going to waste one more second wondering how i've gotten so lucky.

f: i want you.

she smells like angels ought to smell. the perfect woman. the goddess.

f: i need you.

goldie. she says her name is goldie.

three hours later my head is feeling several sizes too big and that cold thing happens to my stomache. then i realize goldie's dead. not a mark on her. you didn't need to check her pulse to know those perfect breast of hers aren't moving like they would if she was breathing. she was murdered and i was right here when it happened; right next to her. stoned drunk, just like she was.

dammit goldie. who were you who'd wanted you dead? who were you besides an angel of mercy who'd given a two-time loser like me the night of his life? well, it sure as hell wasn't my looks. so why the sleazy smile? why the kindness, goldie?

the cops. think they're learning too much. showing up before anybody but me and the killer could know about the murder. somebody paid good money for this frame.

no reason at all to play it quiet. no reason to play it anyway but my way.

whoever that killed you is going to pay, goldie.

police officer: open up. police!

m: i'll be right out...

Sincity Dialogue I

she shivers in the wind like the last leaf on a dying tree. i let her hear my footsteps. she only goes stiff for a moment.

m: care for a smoke?

f: sure. i'll take one. are you as bored about that crowd as i am?

m: i didn't come here for the party. i came here for you. i've watched you for days. you're everything a man could ever want. it's not just your face. or your figure. or your voice. it's your eyes. all the things i see in your eyes.

f: what is it you see in my eyes?

m: i see a crazy call. you're sick of running. you're ready to face what you have to face. but you don't want to face it alone.

f: no. i don't want to face it alone.

the wind rises electric. she's soft and warm and almost weightless. her perfume is a sweet promise that brings tears to my eyes. i tell her that everything will be all right. that i'll save her from whatever she is scared of and take her far, far away. i tell her, i love her.

the silencer makes a whisper of the gunshot. i hold her close until she is gone. i'll never know what she was running from. i'll cash the cheque in the morning.
